Atlas
About
Atlas Coffeeshop is in the Buiksloot neighborhood, at the very northern border of Amsterdam-Noord. The surrounding area is largely residential, and generally one of the more peaceful corners of the city. Atlas is close to several parks and many beautiful canals. A short stroll to the north is the expansive Ilperveld Natural Reserve. If you like fresh air and nature, you’ll appreciate this section of Amsterdam. There is no shortage of beautiful places to take a walk, have a smoke, and enjoy the outdoors.
Outside, Atlas may remind you of a neighborhood recreational center or local bar. Inside, you will find an unpretentious and comfortable establishment for a Dutch coffeeshop. There are tiles lining the floors, detailed trim on the walls, and a good number of tables and chairs. Most customers are locals. Given the relative popularity of the practice, most likely have a preference for mixed smoking (weed or hash plus tobacco). As such, Atlas Coffeeshop has a large dedicated tobacco smoking room to the right as you walk in. In there you will find several tables and more than a dozen chairs. There is also a table football game (foosball) and Photo Play machine if you are looking for something to pass the time. If you prefer pure cannabis and wish to stay away from tobacco smoke, you will find table and bench seating in the front room, near the cannabis counter.
Atlas Coffeeshop has a small cannabis menu displayed on a digital screen. You will find just several types of weed and a couple selections of hash. The tight selection here does not indicate a disinterest in cannabis strains or quality, however. To the contrary, we find Atlas Coffeeshop to be highly focused on the quality of its offerings. It appeared to us the management is more interested in finding a few of the best items they can find to offer its customers, than just filling up a big menu for tourists, who rarely make it to this part of the city. This place is indeed quite popular among the locals, which is perhaps a testament to the quality of the cannabis.
This shop is featured in our 368 page Hardcover book CONNOISSEUR GUIDE: AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS. A MUST-HAVE for any serious visitor to the Amsterdam scene, it is the first book ever to profile all 168 coffeeshops in the city, with vivid full-color pictures, detailed descriptions, amenities, and locals/regulars recommendations for the "best of" shops in a variety of categories.

Atlas Coffeeshop
Atlas Coffeeshop is an establishment that caters almost exclusively to locals. Their prices are reasonable, and in our experience the cannabis exceptional. This is an excellent coffeeshop, well worth a detour.
