Green Place

Green Place Coffeeshop is located on Kloveniersburgwal, just to the south of the Nieuwmarkt (New Market). This is an extremely busy part of Amsterdam. The street is lined with many businesses of all types including small cafes, restaurants, and shops. It also sits directly on the Kloveniersburgwal canal, giving Green Place some pricey real estate. The area is beautiful and historic, and brings in a lot of visitors. Further, it also serves as a central hub for many of the attractions/other areas that Amsterdam has to offer.

This coffeeshop is modest in size. It resides in an area where space is at a premium. What it lacks in size, however, it does seem to make up for in other areas, namely a really “cool vibe”. Starting at the front of the shop, the interior is nice, but not plush. Wall mounted tables, funky lighting, and a long bar make this place feel a bit like a local pub or cafe. Seating in this room is mainly in the form of leather-topped stools. These are lined along the shop’s wrap-around bar, and in front of the tables. Exposed air conditioning ducts give it a bit of an industrial feel. It is functional and artsy.

In the back of Green Place, there is a closed smoking lounge that is a bit more opulent in design. Here you will find leather topped couches that wrap around the room, along with a couple of small tables. The room is not large, but open enough to be a busy corner of this shop.

The trim throughout Green Place is a bit Arabian, with a touch of modern. You cannot put our fingers on it exactly, but Green Place tends to be a really fun, comfortable, happy place to visit. Perhaps it is the cool lighting, the abstract symbols on the walls, the chill music, or simply the staff and people we find here.

With regard to their cannabis, Green Place is presently considered a connoisseur establishment. They have entered numerous competitions in the past, and have some wins to their credit. You can find a couple of their medals displayed on the walls. Likewise, the cannabis menu here is fairly robust. You are likely to find some highly contemporary weed (flower) strains in this shop, as well as some more potency concentrate (hashish) varieties. Their edibles are excellent as well. They also sell pre-rolled joints, if you prefer. Lastly, no shop will keep you comfortable for long without some decent coffee, tea, juices, drinks, and snacks. On that front, Green Place also seems to deliver.

This shop is featured in our 368 page Hardcover book CONNOISSEUR GUIDE: AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS. A MUST-HAVE for any serious visitor to the Amsterdam scene, it is the first book ever to profile all 168 coffeeshops in the city, with vivid full-color pictures, detailed descriptions, amenities, and locals/regulars recommendations for the "best of" shops in a variety of categories.

Green Place

Green Place is a coffeeshop with a cool down-to-earth vibe and fun atmosphere. This is a connoisseur shop that often features contemporary cannabis genetics, and at times even an award winning strain or two. Green Place is an excellent establishment, well worth a visit if you are in the area.
