GreenHouse Namaste Coffeeshop is located on Waterlooplein (Waterloo Square). This square is the site of a famous daily flea market, dubbed the Waterlooplein Markt. It is also a section of the city with a great deal of art and culture. Nearby one can find the National Opera and Ballet House, Rembrandt House Museum, and the Jewish Historical Museum.
A “namaste” is a greeting in Hindu culture. It is usually spoken with a slight bow, and conveys a sense of respect and welcome to the recipient. It is likely this sense of welcome was the intended atmosphere for GreenHouse Namaste. The décor is arguably soothing. It is an intermingling of polished wood with abstract art and fixtures all around. Light boxes are even set into the side wall, displaying a collection of Hindu statues and other bits of art. It is the type of highly detailed surrounding you would expect at a high end spa or hotel.
The shop itself is small, but luxurious. Seating is provided in the form of plush leather and suede covered couches. Throw pillows provide additional comfort and class, not that they are needed. Custom carved tables sit in front, and provide just enough room to rest your things, along with a few drinks or snacks. There is also a nook in the back, which is bounded by exposed brick and a “rock slide” display. A stained glass skylight is featured above. It is all very beautiful, and makes this among the nicest shops, aesthetically speaking, in the city.
The cannabis menu is connoisseur grade at this coffeeshop, as all Green House Amsterdam locations. If you have any doubts just check the glass display case in the front. It holds just a small sampling of the great many competition victories held by this shop. Though some may argue of the politics of cannabis competitions, there is not much arguing about the stock quality here once you have sampled it enough. It is very consistent. Expect to see a large selection on both the flower (weed) and concentrate (hashish) side.
This shop is featured in our 368 page Hardcover book CONNOISSEUR GUIDE: AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS. A MUST-HAVE for any serious visitor to the Amsterdam scene, it is the first book ever to profile all 168 coffeeshops in the city, with vivid full-color pictures, detailed descriptions, amenities, and locals/regulars recommendations for the "best of" shops in a variety of categories.
