Happy Feelings Coffeeshop is located on Kerkstraat (Church Street). It is just a bit outside of the Leidseplein, known for its abundance of nightlife venues like bars, nightclubs, coffeeshops, and restaurants. It is a busy area, but also one with a great deal to see and do.
This coffeeshop refers to itself as the “happiest coffeeshop in town.” While we have no way of objectively evaluating this, we can say the vibe in here is usually pretty upbeat and fun. Being just outside one of the city’s hotspots probably helps. It keeps this shop quite busy with, well, happy guests, which undoubtedly keeps the management happy as well.
You walk through a turnstile upon entering Happy Feelings coffeeshop. Upon doing so, you are presented with a shop that is distinctly contemporary (dare we say trendy) in appearance. There are several standout features of the décor. For starters, the walls of the shop feature large sections of exposed brick. Both track and recessed lighting are overhead. Together, these give the room a city industrial feel. The front counter, which seems to be built out of a glowing cube, provides strong accent lighting for the room. Polished dark black tables and leather/chrome stools accommodate guests, and finish off the modern interior of this shop quite well.
The cannabis menu is considerable in size at Happy Feelings. The menu is found on a digital screen built into the front counter. It separates the weed (flower) strains by indica or sativa dominance. Hashish (concentrate) products are also available, as are pre-rolled joints. For those who prefer vapor to smoke, they also have several De Verdamper vaporizers. These are a cross between a traditional bong (water pipe) and a whip-style (tube draw) vaporizer. A little more tricky to use than a Volcano, but does the trick.
Lastly, you will find a stereo microscope on the counter. This is for examining your purchase up close; a good sign this shop is confident about its stock. Happy Feelings has the basic amenities to make your stay comfortable. It is of note, however, that they really seem to like employing vending machines here. They have separate machines for selling soda, chips and candy, and rolling papers. So these other bits are “self serve”, so to speak.
This shop is featured in our 368 page Hardcover book CONNOISSEUR GUIDE: AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS. A MUST-HAVE for any serious visitor to the Amsterdam scene, it is the first book ever to profile all 168 coffeeshops in the city, with vivid full-color pictures, detailed descriptions, amenities, and locals/regulars recommendations for the "best of" shops in a variety of categories.

Happy Feelings is a clean place with an open and modern interior. It is sort of a mix between a nightclub and a coffeeshop. Though this isn’t the largest shop in the city, it still tends to draw a good crowd on most evenings. While there may be some self service to this coffeeshop, in our experience it is a fun and comfortable place. Happy Feelings may be worth a visit if you are passing by.
