Coffeeshop Ibiza is located in Amsterdam Zuid (South), near the eastern edge of the Oude Pijp (Old Pipe) neighborhood. The Old Pipe area is a popular and lively section of the city; one of Amsterdam’s hotspots. It is densely populated, and has no shortage of bars, restaurants, cafés, and boutique shops to keep you occupied. Generally speaking, however, the streets around Ibiza are a little quieter than that of the Oude Pijp.
Ibiza is the largest coffeeshop in the immediate neighborhood. The place is ornate, starting with the shop’s bright blue painted façade. The interior décor is similarly intricate. The shop has a bright blue and white color scheme as you enter, funky accent lighting, beautiful handcrafted light fixtures, and plenty of artwork - presenting a fun, upbeat vibe. Presumably named after the mediterranean island, the theme here would best be described as “island smokers’ paradise”. The coffeeshop mascot/logo is a joint… which is depicted alone on an island… relaxing with a bottle of beer and a joint of its own.
The building that Coffeeshop Ibiza is in has an expansive split level layout. There are actually four distinct lounge areas in here. The first is on the main level, and hosts the shop’s bar. Here you can purchase your cannabis, as well as from a large selection of drinks and snacks. Bar stools, tables, and chairs provide ample seating. Behind the bar is lounge number two, a glass-enclosed smoking room. This is to comply with European tobacco smoking laws. Mixed joints (tobacco/cannabis) are allowed in here, normally banned in coffeeshops without such facilities.
At the back of the shop are stairs leading up and down to the remaining two lounges. Downstairs you will find the third, a wide room with various chairs, tables, and bench seating. It feels more private here, probably because visually you are separated from the rest of the shop. Upstairs is the fourth lounge. This open room has a balcony overlooking the main floor. The décor is largely traditional wood-trim. There are plenty of chairs, tables, and more importantly, several deep plush leather couches here. These are comfy to say the least. We would argue it is the “prime” seating at Coffeeshop Ibiza.
The cannabis menu is fairly large. On the weed side, expect to find a dozen strains or so. They offer both old-school strains and contemporary items. The hashish-side of the menu is roughly half the size of the weed. Still, there are several selections to choose from. These are traditional imports mainly from Morocoo, Nepal, and India. They also have a fairly extensive selection of pre-rolled joints.
This shop is featured in our 368 page Hardcover book CONNOISSEUR GUIDE: AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS. A MUST-HAVE for any serious visitor to the Amsterdam scene, it is the first book ever to profile all 168 coffeeshops in the city, with vivid full-color pictures, detailed descriptions, amenities, and locals/regulars recommendations for the "best of" shops in a variety of categories.
