Kashmir Coffeeshop is found on Jan Pieter Heijestraat, in Amsterdam’s Oud-West (Old West) neighborhood. This is a diverse part of the city that boasts high real estate prices, and is home to the established and upwardly mobile. There has been seen strong economic development here in recent years. The area around Kashmir now features a mix of modern architecture with beautifully maintained historic buildings. Combined with it being situated close to, and roughly equidistant from, both Rembrandt Park and Vondelpark, it is clear why this neighborhood is so desirable. Do not just come here. Take a long stroll around...
The coffeeshop part of Kashmir is modest in size. It features a small lounge area in one long room on the ground floor, and a bar on one side for ordering cannabis products. The inside is appointed with eclectic colorful artwork throughout, and lined with low, cushy couches and small tables. It is very Asian and Middle Eastern in influence, and quite comfortable.
The individuals behind this establishment also run the Kashmir Lounge across the street, as a compliment to the coffeeshop. This smoke-friendly bar was formed when the alcohol ban on coffeeshops was instituted. The Lounge is a bit larger, with a similar eclectic appearance. They have a full bar with mixed drinks and a formidable beer collection. There is a separate smoking room for tobacco consumption, to comply with EU smoking laws. Otherwise, they are fine with weed being smoked throughout (until such time as a law prohibits it).
The cannabis menu at Kasmir is considered moderate to large in size. Most days, there are many weed options, typically a mix of both old-school strains and new imported genetics. If this shop was known for one thing over the other, it would be hashish (concentrate). They typically have a diverse selection of imports from different regions, and the quality is generally above-average in our experience. You can also find a large list of available pre-rolled joints, if you would rather not do the work.
This shop is featured in our 368 page Hardcover book CONNOISSEUR GUIDE: AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS. A MUST-HAVE for any serious visitor to the Amsterdam scene, it is the first book ever to profile all 168 coffeeshops in the city, with vivid full-color pictures, detailed descriptions, amenities, and locals/regulars recommendations for the "best of" shops in a variety of categories.
