Katsu Coffeeshop is located on Eerste van der Helststraat, just adjacent to the famous outdoor market Albert Cuypmarkt. This shop rests in the De Pijp (The Pipe) neighborhood, a trendy part of the city with a great density of popular bars, nightclubs, restaurants, and an endless selection of enticing shops and cafés. In such a hip section of Amsterdam, it is hard to stand out but Katsu most certainly does. Arguably, it is a bright beacon in this busy neighborhood. In the city-wide coffeeshop scene, this shop is equally noteworthy, and carries a solid reputation for quality and comfort.
One of the first things that stands out about Katsu is that this is an extremely artsy place. You can see this even from the outside, where the façade is painted from the street to the top of the building’s first level. The look is very unusual; an intense blue and green background with splashes of color. With the 3D KATSU logo prominently displayed, it almost feels like the splash screen to a video game; but this is a building!
The artistic vibe continues on the inside, where you will find beautiful paintings, photographs, handbills, and other bits pasted throughout this split level shop. It is vibrant and colorful in here. Simply appointed with wooden benches and tablets, but quite comfortable. The outside seating area is perhaps the real star of the shop. On warm sunny days you will find a sectioned-off area of tables and chairs. In this busy neighborhood, such seating is prime.
This beautiful shop attracts a lot of tourists. It may be a bit outside of the city center, but people often make a special trip here. The menu is presented in both English and Dutch to accommodate the international crowd it attracts. The shop is known for quality cannabis and fair prices, all things considered. You will find a lot of locals here too. So grab some cannabis, order up a coffee, and find a bench. If your experience is anything that the ones we consistently have, you should find your time at Katsu quite enjoyable.
This is typically regarded as a connoisseur shop with regard to its cannabis menu. They have entered and won cannabis competitions in the past. Look around. You will see some awards on display. The menu is robust, with many options on both the weed (flower) and hashish (concentrate) side. The weed tends to be a solid mix of old-school favorites, and contemporary strains. They seem to be constantly updating things here too, which keeps things fresh. The hash-side is equally impressive; many options of pressed import to choose from. This shop also offers pre-rolled joints (mixed and pure weed), and space cakes.
This shop is featured in our 368 page Hardcover book CONNOISSEUR GUIDE: AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS. A MUST-HAVE for any serious visitor to the Amsterdam scene, it is the first book ever to profile all 168 coffeeshops in the city, with vivid full-color pictures, detailed descriptions, amenities, and locals/regulars recommendations for the "best of" shops in a variety of categories.

Katsu is a great shop. The weed is very good here; hash also. Whenever I am in the area I make it a point to stop by. It is a nice chill place to hangout, and the outdoor seating is really nice in the summer.
We love Katsu. This is a great shop with connoisseur weed, and a very comfortable and chill vibe. In short, Katsu is a must visit when in De Pijp. We highly recommend this shop, and feel it is worth a special trip when you come to Amsterdam.
Very poor service
Place was very stylish and I was looking forward to going here as I remember I had visited the last time I was in the city and thought the vibes were good. But today was very different. The two counter assistants, two young women, were very very rude. I asked for a straw and one made a comment about saving the oceans and the two laughed, when I asked for a paper straw I was told there was none. This comment was unnecessary. Then when asking for the toilet I was told by one to wait in the que when I didn't even know where it was. It's a shame about the service cause the weed was nice and we were outside enjoying the surroundings, but we quickly made our way after these encounters with the staff. Unfortunate.
