Paradox Coffeeshop is located on Eerste Bloemdwarsstraat (the first cross street of Bloemstraat), just west of the central canal ring. This coffeeshop resides on a largely residential block in the Jordaan district. The neighborhood and main streets that surround Paradox are often very busy. The block that Paradox is found on, however, is generally much more quiet. As such, this shop can be a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam.
The interior of Paradox is chill and artsy. When you walk in, you will immediately notice that they feature the work of local artists. A unique feature here is the enormous cartoon that stretches along the wall on the left. It is fun and upbeat. Next, perhaps the oldest feature in the room, is the exposed brick (opposite wall) which gives Paradox an urban-industrial yet warm atmosphere.
This coffeeshop is a true “chill out” place. The furniture is comfortable (especially the couches) and the music is hip (we think so anyway) - management makes an effort to keep the customers happy. If you are up for a game, look around. Backgammon, chess, and others are available. Want a snack? They have everything from milkshakes to chocolate chip cookies, and of course, a diverse assortment of coffees, teas, juices, soft drinks, and other treats. A testament to how celebrated this place is, is the local clientele. Though Paradox is very popular with tourists, you are likely to find just as many Jordaan locals hanging out here.
The cannabis menu is not extensive at Paradox. They usually have less than ten strains of weed (flower), and maybe half that on the hashish (concentrate) side. Though the stock is limited, we have found the quality to be very good. They sell pre-rolled joints, both mixed and pure. We generally do not recommend pre-rolls as they are sometimes made from the lowest quality stock. We have not noticed that issue, however, at Paradox.
This shop is also well known for its cake edibles. However, you should be warned. They put a full gram of cannabis in each piece. In case you are unawarem, that is quite a lot. These are STRONG, far more potent than you generally see in Amsterdam. We advise consuming just a little at first if you are not used to higher-dose edibles. Also, if your preferred method of consumption is vaping, this coffeeshop also features a pair of Volcano vaporizers. This makes Paradox a great Vapor Lounge too. We highly recommend this coffeeshop if that is your thing.
This shop is featured in our 368 page Hardcover book CONNOISSEUR GUIDE: AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS. A MUST-HAVE for any serious visitor to the Amsterdam scene, it is the first book ever to profile all 168 coffeeshops in the city, with vivid full-color pictures, detailed descriptions, amenities, and locals/regulars recommendations for the "best of" shops in a variety of categories.

An Amsterdam original, Paradox is located on a quiet block in the Jordaan. This coffeeshop is an artsy and chill place, and a big draw with both locals and visitors alike. Though the cannabis menu is modest in size, the stock is quality and pricing reasonable. In our experience Paradox coffeeshop is an excellent establishment, worth a visit if you are in the area, perhaps even a special trip.
