Roxy coffeeshop is located on Gerard Doustraat, in a lively section of Amsterdam-Zuid (South). This establishment is close to Albert Cuyp Markt, which is the largest outdoor market in the Netherlands. Here you will find hundreds of vendors offering everything from trinkets to fresh vegetables. Beer, coffee, food; it is all here. This place can be a lot of fun. Naturally, the market is a popular draw with city visitors. We do highly recommended stopping by if you are considering a trip to this coffeeshop.
Coffeeshop Roxy has a very upscale feel to it. The place looks more like a trendy restaurant or small art gallery than a traditional Dutch coffeeshop, which is typically more austere. The seating here is all black leather. It comes in the form of comfortable chairs, pulled next to matching black tables. There is also an elevated seating area in one corner with plush leather benches. It has a bit of a private “VIP section” feeling. The dark wood and furniture in this shop all visually contrasts with the white walls and vibrant accent lighting. It is a posh contemporary look. While not expansive, the Roxy still comes across as spacious. The open layout of this place probably makes it appear larger.
The cannabis menu here is substantial in size. You can expect to find more than a dozen strains of weed. This will be a lot of traditional old-school varieties, but mixed in, some contemporary USA genetics. The have roughly half this selection on the hashish (concentrate) side. However, do not let this discourage you. The Roxy has a reputation for quality hashish. They tend to keep the quality tight, in our experience. They also have pre-rolled joints; quite a lot of them. Just about any strain on the menu. Some basic space cakes too.
If needed, the Roxy also has a solid selection of smoking accessories such as pipes, bongs, grinders, and vaporizers. While most coffeeshops have the basics for use, a surprising portion do not stock a lot of this stuff for sale. No need for a trip to the headshop here.
Like most coffeeshops, the Roxy serves a selection of hot and cold drinks. This includes teas, coffee, and soda. The coffee is pretty good here. They also have a small selection of basic snacks likes chips and candy. There is enough here to stave off the munchies for a little while, but not enough to take the place of a meal. For that, we suggest a break at one of the many local restaurants, or of course, the Albert Cuyp Markt.
This shop is featured in our 368 page Hardcover book CONNOISSEUR GUIDE: AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS. A MUST-HAVE for any serious visitor to the Amsterdam scene, it is the first book ever to profile all 168 coffeeshops in the city, with vivid full-color pictures, detailed descriptions, amenities, and locals/regulars recommendations for the "best of" shops in a variety of categories.
