Stone's Coffeeshop is located on Ruysdaelkade, a long street the runs beside the boerenwetering canal. It is in the Oude Pijp (Old Pipe) section of Amsterdam, a lively multicultural area of the city that is also home to Albert Cuypmarkt, Sarphatipark, and the major tourist draw that is The Heineken Experience. Stone’s is located in a busy part of the Oude Pijp, which is also home to a small red light district.
Stone’s Coffeeshop is a longstanding brand in Amsterdam, which established itself in the main Red Light District (De Wallen). Its original coffeeshops, however, have since been de-licensed, due to changes in zoning regulations, and now operate as a pub and café. This location in Amsterdam Zuid is their newest, and unfortunately, only remaining coffeeshop. Its building was actually the former home to the Kabouter Coffeeshop. The change to Stone’s occurred sometime in 2014.
Inside this coffeeshop, one will find a basic but contemporary décor. The place is bright, warm, and inviting. There is not really a smoking lounge here, though. Stone’s is a small establishment. They are operating mainly as a take-and-go location at this time. There is a counter in front of the window, so a small area is available for prepping your smoke before you head out the door.
Though a “carry out” coffeeshop, Stone’s is generally regarded as a quality establishment. They have a fairly large cannabis menu, which typically includes a good variety of both flower (weed) and hashish options. The strains on the weed-side are mainly old school; recognized Amsterdam favorites. They will stock a bit of modern genetics though as well. For hashish, they have a small selection of traditional imports. Most of the time they will also stock at least one variety of more potent domestic nederhasj (Isolator).
Being a bit out of the city center, and noticing a lot more “locals” business, pricing here also tends to be more reasonable than its counterparts in Amsterdam Centre.
This shop is featured in our 368 page Hardcover book CONNOISSEUR GUIDE: AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS.
