The Wauw Shop
The Wauw Shop coffeeshop is found a bit to the north of Westerpark, at the edge of the Spaarndammerbuurt neighborhood. Immediately to the north is the Houthavens, where you will find docks, and a lot of industrial activity. To the south, however, Spaarndammerbuurt is largely residential. If you head here, perhaps you will find the quiet streets a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam centrum.
As you enter The Wauw Shop, you approach a large security counter. It is the kind with a bulletproof partition to protect employees from robbery. Not that this is a bad neighborhood by any stretch, but these businesses handle a lot of cash and weed. As such, they can become targets, especially being in a less popular (Read as: “quieter with less people watching”) location. You simply slide your money into the small window, and the budtender will slide back your purchase.
The Wauw Shop is largely frequented by locals. They do see tourists from time-to-time, though, being somewhat near the city center. Regardless, if you are a regular or a first time guest, this is not a “hangout” coffeeshop. You cannot smoke here. It is a strictly take-and-go location. There is, however, a small table in the corner, if you need to take a minute or two to roll a joint before heading out the door.
The cannabis menu here is modest in size. On the weed side you should find several strains, typically old-school varieties, which are more recognized by the locals. They have a decent selection of traditional imported pressed hashish here as well.
Pricing on both sides of the menu tends to be much lower per gram than many of the shops in the center, given the local customer base. In addition to the basic products, The Wauw Shop also sells pre-rolled joint packs and a space cake (pound cake) or two.
Very nice staff and some good strains!!
