New Times would be best described as a modern coffeeshop. The interior is highly polished. Clean hardwood floors frame the room, and the shop is accented with purple lighting and trim. They have recessed lighting, and other contemporary fixtures.
For a long time this establishment was known as Utopia, but changed hands in early 2018 to become The Plug. Interestingly, the new owner also runs The Plug cannabis club in Barcelona, which is quite well known for its connoisseur products.
Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 132
The Sprit is an establishment that would be best described as a cross between a traditional dutch coffeeshop, and a retro amusement center. It has a full wall of pinball machines... arcade games... There is no other place like it in Amsterdam!
On nice days the management will usually open up one of the wide front windows. Sit next to it. You'll be indoors, but immersed in the beautiful outside air and sunshine. This feature probably places Solo on the "coolest coffeeshop seating" list.
Korte Koningsstraat 2
This shop might just be “the” place for the visiting celebrity stoner. The atmosphere is upscale. The menu is excellent, and boasts many internationally famous strains. Perhaps most importantly though, it is far enough from the center to be quiet.
This coffeeshop is owned by the proprietors of Siberië, The Loft, and De Supermarkt. The management has been quite serious about weed, often focusing on the more contemporary high-potency strains. All four are regarded as connoisseur coffeeshops.
Tweede Nassaustraat 1B
Best Friends Coffeeshop (South) is located just outside the entrance to Vondel Park. This is the third Best Friends shop, joining the brand in 2018. This also makes it among the newest coffeeshops in Amsterdam, at least when counting ownership.
The Wauw Shop is found in the Houthavens neighborhood. It is largely a place frequented by locals, though does get a tourist visitor or two as well, being somewhat near the city center. This is not a "hangout" coffeeshop. It is strictly take-and-go.
Amsterdamned is located on Haarlemmerstraat, a bustling area of the city packed with restaurants and small trendy boutiques. The ambiance of the place is a mix between artsy and modern; the type of shop that could easily fit well as a café or bakery.
